Artist Statement
We are Nelson and Lorna Forest and we live in North Central Florida. We
create bird sculptures from PVC pipe.
We started creating bird sculptures in 2004 in New Hampshire. We left our
full-time jobs in Law Enforcement to devote all of our time to our work. We
have a passion for the outdoors and birds.
We are self taught artists with a back ground in woodworking, drawing and
stained glass. We found making sculptures with PVC pipe allows us to give our
sculptures a 3 dimensional aspect. We also found that the PVC also mimics the
movements of the real bird as it will sway in the wind. We strive to make our bird
sculptures as real and life like as the bird we portray.
Each bird starts out on the drawing board as our original designs. It takes many
steps until we are satisfied with our final sculptured piece. We use simple tools
such as a jigsaw, sandpaper and different heat sources to create different
poses. Each bird is carefully painted with a process to last many years.
We are continually striving to improve our birds. We also embrace the challenge
of creating new birds to broaden our collection.
We hope the passion, dedication and hard work is reflected in our bird
sculptures.
